Skin cancer screening, diagnosis and treatment are among the most important dermatology services we offer at SkinSmart Dermatology®. In addition to regular self-exams at home, we recommend an annual full-body skin exam by Dr. Elizabeth Callahan, Dr. William Adams or one of our practitioners. If you have a history of skin cancer, we recommend an exam in our Sarasota office at least every six months.
At SkinSmart, we have five medical dermatological practitioners on site, a complete skin cancer surgery wing and our own pathology lab — all located within our 10,000 square-foot state-of-the-art medical facility, right across from the University Town Center Mall. We are the ONLY single practice from Tampa to Naples with two full-time Fellowship Trained Mohs Skin Cancer Surgeons on staff.
To learn more about skin cancer diagnosis and treatment, request a consultation or call our Sarasota office at (941) 308-7546. Women and men visit us for advanced skin cancer treatment from Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Siesta Key and the entire Suncoast of Florida.
Skin Cancer Treatments
Once skin cancer is diagnosed, the first line of treatment is surgical removal of the cancerous or precancerous lesion. At SkinSmart Dermatology, we offer traditional surgery and Mohs micrographic surgery, an advanced treatment procedure for skin cancer.
Mohs surgery offers the highest potential for recovery – up to 95 percent – even if other forms of treatment have failed. This procedure is the most exact and precise method of tumor removal. It minimizes the chance of regrowth and reduces the potential for scarring or disfigurement. SkinSmart is currently the only single practice with two fellowship-trained and accredited Mohs surgeons on staff from Tampa to Naples.
Of course, surgical skill and experience are critical to a successful outcome and you can feel confident you are in excellent hands at SkinSmart Dermatology. Dr. Callahan and Dr. Adams are both fellowship-trained Mohs surgeons, and are accredited through the American College of Mohs Surgery. Together, they have performed over 20,000 Mohs surgeries. Dr. Callahan is repeatedly recognized as a “Top Doctor” by Castle Connolly, the organization that surveys physicians and creates the peer-recommended lists each year.
